At Loro Parque, we are committed to achieving a balance between education, conservation, and the visitor experience. Our commitment to animal welfare remains at the forefront, and here we explain how we manage the interaction between animals and our visitors responsibly. Our dedication to animal welfare is paramount, and here we explain how we responsibly manage interactions between animals and our visitors.

Innovative design for animal welfare

Our facilities are carefully designed according to the highest animal welfare standards, ensuring a healthy physical, mental, and emotional environment for every species. In fact, Loro Parque’s enclosures not only comply with requirements, they exceed them by integrating environmental enrichment. We are also one of the few zoos in Spain with a specialist Animal Welfare Department.

Each enclosure is tailored to meet the complex needs of its species, providing space for natural behaviours, social interaction, and harmonious living. This blend of innovation, scientific expertise, and ethical commitment enables us to create not merely protected environments but places where animals can thrive and enjoy an exceptional quality of life.

Research and continuous improvement

Since 1994, the Loro Parque Foundation has been engaged in scientific research, resulting in more than 140 published articles in scientific journals and thousands of popular science publications, including its own magazine, Cyanopsitta.
Cyanopsitta is Loro Parque Fundación’s scientific magazine, where readers can discover research projects, species reintroduction programmes, parrot science, and valuable content about biodiversity conservation.

Education and visitor engagement

We recognise that visitors can influence animal behaviour, which is why we carry out education programmes that show how to behave in ways that minimise negative impacts. These programmes also raise awareness and promote respect for wildlife.

All animals benefit from social interaction, cognitive challenges, and varied environments, all crucial for wellbeing and healthy development.

Transparency and collaboration

Transparency and open dialogue are pillars of Loro Parque’s philosophy. By working closely with experts, researchers, and international organisations, we continually refine our practices to maintain the highest standards in animal management and conservation.

We collaborate with dozens of universities worldwide and employ a highly specialised scientific team dedicated to applying the latest knowledge in biology, ethology, and sustainable wildlife management.

Towards a future of coexistence

At Loro Parque, we work to create a world where animals thrive while fulfilling our mission of education and conservation. Visitors are invited to be active participants in the welfare of these remarkable animals. Together, we can build a future where human curiosity and animal wellbeing coexist in harmony.

On your next visit, remember that you play a vital role in our conservation efforts. Help us make every visit count, for the animals today and for future generations.
