The five principles of Loro Parque

Our utmost concern is animal welfare understood in a comprehensive manner. We care for the animals que animals that live in our park with love and respect. We design specific plans for each species and animal under our care, and we do so based on the biological findings obtained in modern zoos and through the application of veterinary knowledge to wildlife.

  1. Freedom from hunger and thirst.
  2. Freedom from discomfort through appropriate environment.
  3. Freedom from pain, injury, or disease.
  4. Freedom from fear and distress.
  5. Freedom to express normal behaviour.

These 5 principles guide the day-to-day life of Loro Parque.

We care for our animals with love and utmost respect to ensure their well-being and dignity.

We provide the animals in our care with the Five Freedoms (Animal Welfare Council, 1979).

We regard all animals that live in Loro Parque as ambassadors of their own species and their natural habitats.

We support research and conservation activities for endangered species under human care and in natural ecosystems.

We are a sanctuary for any wild animal that needs our help

Modern Zoo

Modern zoos are embassies for animals and the ideal showcase for bringing the natural world closer to people.

Created as places for animal care, scientific study and to raise awareness of the global environmental crisis, we are one of the most active links in the current animal and environmental protection

We have been conceived as a place for animal care, scientific study, and awareness of the global environmental crisis, we are one of the most active links in the current animal and environmental protection not only in the Canary Islands, but throughout the world.

At Loro Parque we have simplified our positive environmental impact into figures.

Vegetation

Loro Parque is not only a place for the conservation and protection of animals, but also of plant species. In our facilities there are specimens from all over the world, palm trees, orchids, ficus trees, cacti… The vegetation of the park allows us to simulate the natural habitats of the animals, creating enriched and suitable spaces for each species.

Parrot Museum

This remarkable space within the park houses an extensive collection of porcelain parrots. Delicately created and reproduced down to the finest detail, the oldest preserved pieces date back to the beginning of the 18th century.

This unique museum in Spain takes us on a journey into the past, where we can confirm that parrots from South America, Asia, Africa, and Indonesia have been known since the 18th century.

Gorilla Award

Since 2003, Loro Parque has been awarding this prize to personalities and organisations committed to scientific work, research, and environmental responsibility. It rewards and recognises the active work of individuals, institutions, and companies in the conservation of biodiversity.
